WIW and Whew! Fallout Of Alabama's Mass Shooting

I was called to stand as a Woman in White- WIW on Saturday April 22nd. The call came A Week after our area was devastated by the news that 4 people were shot and killed and 30 others shot and wounded in a small Alabama town called Dadeville. Dadeville is not far away, people from the entire area including Tuskegee and nearby Opelika were in attendance and the next punch was hard and swift as more than one of the accused gunmen was from Tuskegee. I was called to stand in solidarity with our local Councilwoman , (Norma Jackson City of Tuskegee, Macon County, Alabama)A local Womens group and other Community Members and Leaders. I was glad to be called because I was still in a frozen shocky sort of space where I knew I needed to do something, say something-- I just hadn't quite gotten past the horror and the crying to figure out what. I was dressed in my white that day but delayed by an urgent call regarding one of my clients and missed the press conference. I decided to take a picture and figure out how to stand up and show up in response to Councilwoman Jackson's call to action for us to Heal and Assist in the legnthy recovery ahead of us in both communities. She pointed out that several of the accused were children, not yet 18 , our children.
. As a Youth Yoga teacher and Green Educator not to mention mother of 7{Automatically aquainting me with a number of youth of various ages in public school, private school and homeschool } in the area--I knew and felt this profoundly. I was glad she reminded us, reminded the world, however because the responsibility for the state of mind and health of our children rests squarely on the shoulders of the adults in any community. We are inevitably asking ourselves, How did we fail them? How Did we miss this and most importantly How do we help now? The call to the women in my community to wear white and show up in solidarity , was a call to all people who are asking themselves these questions. Its not about a color or a uniform look-- its about a willingness to serve, to heal, to do what is necessary in a community with many needs at this moment and to focus on getting the job done, shoulder to shoulder , putting other differences aside. I have served as a Woman in White in the past with some of these women and many others: Offering healing services to families under financial duress, supporting the mothers of victims of violence and creating youth programs to help guide and empower our youth. I am honored to do so again and I thank the Councilwoman and the Sisters Circle for issuing the call. I offer my sincere condolences to all of the victims and their families and communities. In addition I offer my Stress Management Services and any other resources at my disposal as A Wellness Organization/Community Health and Wellness TMC and a part of The Shanti Villa Institute Clinic which specializes in natural alternative health and Stress Management as well as Environmental Solutions.
